Deadwood Lookout Cabin

    Deadwood Lookout Cabin is located on the top of Deadwood Mountain, surrounded by windows that provide spectacular views of the mountains on all sides. It was constructed in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and was used to watch for wildfires. 
    The lookout is a single 14-by-14-foot room with sleeping accommodations for two and a wood stove with a flat surface for cooking.  The lookout is surrounded by a railed walkway.

Reservations: The cabin can be reserved at www.recreation.gov.

Directions: From Boise, Idaho, drive 35 miles north on Idaho State Road 55 to Banks, then drive 25 miles east on the Banks-Lowman Road to Forest Road 555. Drive nine miles north and turn right onto Forest Road 555 EC. The cabin is three miles further, at the end of that road. Click here for a map.

Amenities: Wood stove, two joinable single beds, a wood counter with shelf, and a table with two chairs. A vault toilet is located near the lookout. No potable water is available, and there are no dishes, pans or utensils.
