Las Petacas Campground

    Las Petacas Campground is next to US 64 and the Rio Fernando just outside of Taos, NM. The campground has 8 sites and one vault toilet. There is no drinking water and no garbage service. The campground is a nice jumping-off point for exploring New Mexico's highest peaks. Highway 64 from Taos east to Eagle Nest is a very scenic route where deer, elk and other wildlife are commonly seen.

Prices: $5 per vehicle, day use or overnight

Reservations: First-come, first-served.

Directions: From Taos, NM, drive 5 miles east on US 64. The campground is on the right. Map.

Amenities: Vault toilets. No drinking water. No garbage service.

Open dates: Memorial Day-Labor Day.

Nearby: The Rio Fernando runs through the campground. The small creek offers some fishing. There are dozens of hiking trails in the area.
