The campground is located in a mixed ponderosa pine/spruce (forested) vegetation type. Pine Lake Reservoir is 0.2 miles to the southwest, and a foot bridge and walking path connect the campground to the lake.

The campground is at 8,300 feet in elevation with a normal operating season from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Weather permitting the campground will be open until September 30th. The roadways in the main campground are paved, but the parking spurs in the family campground and the road into the John’s Valley Group Site are graveled.      There is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out policy for garbage management at this campground; however, there is a dumpster located on John’s Valley Road.
