Elk Creek Campground

Elk Creek campground consist of 3 loops in the campground; 2 main loops and the overflow loop. There are 42 sites including: 27 single campsites, 2 double, and 13 overflow sites. Sites 1-30 have tables, lantern hooks and fire rings, while sites 31-43 are pull through sites with no tables or fire rings. There are 3 vault toilets and a water system with 5 water hydrants located throughout the campground.

 

Elk Creek campground is lightly wooded with spruce and some ponderosa pine trees. The understory is grass with some sites located next to Elk Creek. The campground is conveniently located within close proximity to the South San Juan Wilderness Area.

Reservations: Available at recreation.gov. Reservations can be made 6 months prior to the first day of your camping stay.

​

Directions: From Antonito, CO, take US 285 south 0.3 miles to Hwy 17.  Continue straight on Hwy 17 and go 22.6 miles to campground sign. Turn right onto dirt road and go 0.1 miles to a "T" intersection. Turn left, go 0.4 miles to a "Y" intersection. Bear right and turn into campground. See map below.

 

Amenities: Vault toilets, drinking water, garbage service.

 

Open dates: Friday before Memorial Day to second Monday in September, weather permitting.
