Lost Trail Campground

Lost Trail Campground is located among aspen, spruce, and fir trees. It is not immediately adjacent to the Lost Trail Creek or the Rio Grande but both are close.  There are 7 sites at this campground.  The elevation is 9,500 ft.

 

Prices: No fees are charged.

 

Directions: Lost Trail Campground is located in Hinsdale County. To reach this site from Creede, Colorado travel the Silver Thread Scenic Byway, Hwy 149, west out of Creede for 20.1 miles then turn onto Forest Service Road 520 and travel this road for another 18 miles over the gravel road to the campground.  See map below.

 

Amenities: Vault toilet. No potable water. No garbage service - pack it in, pack it out.

 

Nearby: The Rio Grande River itself, particularly this close to the headwaters is an attraction by itself for some. There are also several trails and four wheel drive opportunities including ATV routes a short distance above this campground along Forest Service Road 520.  A popular four wheel drive loop includes Forest Service Road 520 to Stony Pass, into Silverton, then over Engineer or Cinnamon Passes to Lake City, and back along the Silver Thread Scenic Byway, Hwy 149 to Forest Service Road 520 and back to the campground ending a full day’s scenic four wheel drive excursion.
