Luby Bay Campground

Idaho Panhandle National Forests

Luby Bay Campground is located on the west shore of Priest Lake, 28 miles north of the Town of Priest River, ID.  It has 53 secluded campsites which are shaded by hemlock and cedar.  The campground also has a day use area with picnic units, an amphitheater, and a swimming beach with swim buoys. Several steep paths access the beach. There is also a dual-bay RV dump station, located in Upper Luby.

The camping fee does not cover parking in the day use area or using the dump station. You may walk to the day use area from your campsite or load/unload a car for up to 10 minutes for no additional charge, but parking a vehicle there will cost an additional $8.00.

Reservations: Available at recreation.gov. Reservations can be made 6 months prior to the first day of your camping stay. You can also reserve sites using the recreation.gov mobile app (available on iPhone and Android). Kayaks & paddle boards can be rented here.

Directions: From Priest River, travel 28 miles north on State Highway 57 to Luby Bay Road. Turn right (east) on the paved Luby Bay Road and travel for 2 miles. Turn left (north) on the paved county W. Lakeshore Road and travel one mile to the campground entrances. Upper Luby will be on the left (west) and Lower Luby on the right (east).  See map below.

 

Open Dates: Opens one week before Memorial Day weekend (on Friday). Closes the last Monday in September at noon. To see the most current season dates, please visit recreation.gov.


Amenities: Pressurized drinking water, flush toilets, bear resistant dumpsters, bear resistant food boxes and a dual-bay RV dump station. Roads are paved. Parking spurs are paved in the Lower Luby loop, and gravel in the Upper Luby loop. Paddleboards may now be reserved online here for this location. Pick up Paddleboards at site 27 in the upper loop.

Nearby: Visitors enjoy kayaking, canoeing and power boating in the nearby lake.  Fishing, swimming, birding and wildlife viewing are popular activities as well.  The public Beach Trail #48 parallels the lake through the campground.  Off-road vehicle enthusiasts will find authorized trails like the Peewee Trail, Steep Creek Trail and John Wayne Trail.

Hannah Flats hiking trail, Granite Falls & Ancient Cedar Forest are nearby. The Priest Lake Farmers Market is held Fridays at 11:30 am. Some groceries & fuel can be purchased at the two gas stations near the lake. There are a variety of places to eat near the campground and you can find them listed at www.priestlake.org.
