Mix Lake Campground will be closed through the 2020 season (and possibly longer) for hazard tree removal.


Mix Lake Campground meanders up and around a hillside just above Mix Lake.  The campground consists of 21 sites, some of which overlook the lake.  While most sites are open, the campground features several stands of large, mature spruce and aspen trees.  The campground is located in Conejos County in the upper Conejos Canyon.  Each site has a table and fire ring with grate.

Directions:  It is located approximately 45 miles west of Antonito, Colorado, via paved highway 17 for 22 miles, then the gravel Forest Service road 250 for 23 miles. The entire route to the campground is paved and graveled and can be accessed with a passenger car. The elevation of the campground is 10,000 ft.

Amenities: Toilets, drinking water, garbage service. Free day use parking for Mix Lake Observation site is located at the top of the campground. It is a popular way to get a birds-eye view of Mix Lake.

Open dates: Memorial Day to Labor Day, weather permitting.

Nearby: Fishing, hunting, hiking, scenic driving, and wildlife watching are some of the popular activities in the area. Explore various trails, drive the scenic loop of Forest Service Road 250 and visit the old mining towns of Stunner and Jasper. Also drive through the scenic and beautiful Alamosa Canyon area and experience the Alamosa River and Terrace reservoir.
