South Skookum Lake contains 25 campsites.  There is a short and narrow boat ramp available.  The lake is small enough to make it not suitable for large boats.  Two docks provide fishing opportunities for those without boats.

Directions:  From Newport, WA follow State Highway 20 north for 15 miles to the town of Usk. Cross the bridge over the Pend Oreille River on the east edge of town and follow the Kings Lake Road (County Road 3389) 8 miles to the junction of Forest Road 5032350 (Kings Mountain). Follow Kings Mountain for 0.5 mile to the campground entrance.

 

Amenities:  Vault toilets, drinking water, animal resistant garbage containers, animal resistant food storage boxes.

 

Open dates:  Friday before Memorial Day to day after Labor Day at noon.

 

Nearby:  South Baldy lookout, which is still staffed during the summer months, is visible from the campground and is a popular day trip. The trailhead for South Skookum Trail #138 is located next to the boat launch area. This non-motorized loop trail is 1.6 miles, which includes a spur trail, and offers scenic views of the lake. Five benches are scattered along the trail and offer visitors an opportunity to stop and enjoy the scenery.
