River Hill Campground
Due to COVID-19, this campground will not open until May 29. We strive diligently to keep our facilities disinfected, but we cannot guarantee that our facilities are 100% free of coronavirus. Stage 2 fire restrictions are in effect. No campfires are currently allowed in this campground. More information on current restrictions can be found on the Forest Service website.
River Hill Campground consists of two loops with a total of 20 total sites. The elevation is 9,300 ft. The campground sits along the Rio Grande in a spruce/fir forested area.
River Hill was closed from 2013 to 2015 because of damage from a forest fire, but it reopened in 2016.

Reservations: Available at recreation.gov. Reservations can be made 6 months prior to the first day of your camping stay.
Directions: River Hill campground is located in Hinsdale County. To reach this site from Creede, Colorado travel the Silver Thread Scenic Byway, Hwy 149, west out of Creede for a little over 20 miles, then turn on Forest Service Road 520, the Rio Grande Reservoir Road, for another 9.5 miles to the campground. Open dates: Friday before Memorial Day to Labor Day, weather permitting.
