River Hill Campground

As of 2023, this campground is no longer operated by Scenic Canyons, and this page will not be updated. For up to date information, please visit the Forest Service website.

River Hill Campground consists of two loops with a total of 20 total sites. The elevation is 9,300 ft.  The campground sits along the Rio Grande in a spruce/fir forested area.

River Hill was closed from 2013 to 2015 because of damage from a forest fire, but it reopened in 2016.

 

Prices:

    $26 for a single site

    $52 for a double site

    $13 for day use

 

Reservations: Available at recreation.gov. Reservations can be made six months prior to the first day of your camping stay.

Directions: River Hill campground is located in Hinsdale County. To reach this site from Creede, Colorado travel the Silver Thread Scenic Byway, Hwy 149, west out of Creede for a little over 20 miles, then turn on Forest Service Road 520, the Rio Grande Reservoir Road, for another 9.5 miles to the campground. Amenities: Toilets, drinking water, garbage service.

 

Open dates: Friday before Memorial Day to second Monday in September, weather permitting.
