Rio Grande National Forest

River Hill Campground consists of two loops with a total of 20 total sites. The elevation is 9,300 ft.  The campground sits along the Rio Grande in a spruce/fir forested area.

River Hill was closed from 2013 to 2015 because of damage from a forest fire, but it reopened in 2016.

Directions:  River Hill campground is located in Hinsdale County. To reach this site from Creede, Colorado travel the Silver Thread Scenic Byway, Hwy 149, west out of Creede for a little over 20 miles then turn on Forest Service Road 520, the Rio Grande Reservoir Road, for another 9.5 miles to the campground.  See map below.

Open dates: Memorial Day to Labor Day, weather permitting.
