Spectacle Lake Campground

Spectacle Lake Campground, among aspen and mixed conifer trees, is adjacent to the fast-moving Conejos River, with some sites overlooking the river.  Most sites have a panoramic view of towering cliff walls.  The campground consists of 23 single sites.  Each site has a table and fire ring with grate.  The elevation of the campground is 8,700 ft.

Reservations: Not available.

 

Directions: Spectacle Lake campground is located approximately 28 miles west of Antonito, Colorado, via paved Highway 17 for 22 miles, then the gravel Forest Service road 250 for 6 miles.  See map below.

 

Amenities: Toilets, trash collection, hand pump for drinking water.

 

Open dates: Friday before Memorial Day to Labor Day, weather permitting.

 

Nearby: Fishing, boating, and hiking are available nearby. Spectacle Lake, a 2 acre lake, is located across the road from the campground and is stocked with fish each year. Explore various trails, drive the scenic loop of Forest Service Road 250 and visit the old mining towns of Stunner and Jasper.
